Nowadays, the vast majority of the population owns a smartphone, and amongst them, 85% use Android. Knowing that, there's a good chance this article concerns you. Google recently confessed it was able to know where you were, even if your location services are deactivated, and even if your phone doesn't have a SIM card installed. Impossible you say? Guess again! Eventhough it didn't have the right to do it, Google was able to get your location using some other method. Basically, Google was able to retrace where you were thanks to cell phone towers near you. By using the same system to send you messages or notifications, it was able to locate you thanks to your Cell ID. Google mentionned that it was using your Cell ID to try and increase the speed and performance of their messaging services. Google then mentionned that it wasn't keeping that data and that they've stopped doing it since November 2017. That being said, it still means that they've willingly ignored their users' privacy preferences and monitored people's private life without their knowledge. There's also a good chance Google will eventually use this data to even better target you with ads (while increasing their revenues). Don't be fooled, Big Brother really is amongst us!GOOGLE confessed
How was he doing it?
Why did Google do that?
