Is your website optimized for Facebook and Twitter?

Wednesday, July 20, 2016

We keep getting questions from our clients who ask us how we manage to tell Facebook exactly what to display when someone shares a page on our website. The answer is pretty simple: by using meta tags.

We decided to give you a list of what we consider important meta tags that need to be included on your website when it comes to social media marketing (SMO):

<meta property="fb:page_id" content="8419819225" />
<meta property="og:site_name" content="Numérique.ca"/>
<meta property="og:title" content="Make a website easily with our web tools. View Numérique.ca's portfolio!"/>
<meta property="og:description" content="Numerique.ca is a website design company able to make your website quickly and make sure customers will find you in Google (SEO optimization)."/>
<meta property="og:url" content="https://numerique.ca/en/" />
<meta property="og:image" content="https://numerique.ca/images/site/facebook.png"/>
<link rel="image_src" href="https://numerique.ca/images/site/facebook.png" />
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
<meta name="twitter:image:alt" content="Numérique.ca">
<meta name="twitter:site" content="@numeriqueinc">
By implementing all these tags, you're making sure that your page is optimized when someone shares it in most social networks. It's important to know that, if your website is missing some of these tags, Facebook and Twitter will still display some content. It's just that you won't decide exactly what it is, something that these meta tags allows you to do.
